When Miguel Torres headed off to college at Florida State University, his intent was to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a Physician Assistant. But by senior year, he started thinking about nursing instead, and enrolled in nursing school after graduating from FSU in 2011 with a degree in exercise science. Where are you from originally?
Miami, Florida.
What’s your pre-TGRP professional background?
After working as a medical technician and enrolling in a nursing program, I had a change of heart. I moved to Boston and worked as a server for a while. When I was ready to leave Boston, a friend who was living in Denver helped me get a job at the Grand Hyatt, where he was working. I sold my car and almost everything I owned and moved to Colorado in 2015!
What was your job at the Grand Hyatt?
I worked in the banquet event area, supervising our team of 10. It was a great job that saved my life in multiple ways, and it’s also where I met my wife! She was a chef there, and when we started dating and became more serious, I left.
You started recruiting for a different firm in 2016. Tell us about that.
A friend of mine is a recruiter for Modis, which is a global company (and part of the Adecco Group) that delivers professional staffing and consulting to companies around the world. She loved her job in Florida and suggested I apply to work for Modis in Denver. I was hired as a resource development manager.
First impressions of recruiting?
I loved recruiting right away. I felt like I was making a positive impact on people’s lives, and I still feel that way!
You stepped away from recruiting for a short time, right?
I joined a dessert manufacturing company, and helped maintain product details in their ERP system and create bills of materials and things like that. I did that for a year and a half, and then a family member who worked for Hear.com hired me. I worked there until March 2020.
Then back to recruiting?
Funny enough, about two weeks before the pandemic hit, I reached out to my old boss at Modis about returning. I was already experienced so it was easier for me to get back up to speed, and I avoided getting furloughed during the pandemic.
How did you get to TGRP Solutions?
I became a dad in May 2021, and after a while, I was ready for a change and a new opportunity. My search led me to TGRP Solutions, which felt like a much different environment and had a strong family feel. My initial impression was great, and I decided I wanted to be a part of this company! I was lucky enough to get hired in September 2021.
What sets TGRP Solutions apart as an employer?
It’s the way they treat everyone, both employees and clients. We celebrate everyone’s wins and it comes from the top down. I have never worked for someone who has allowed me to feel like I’m truly a part of the company, but that’s how Mark [Reister] treats all of us.
What’s your silly-but-real job title?
Mike the Mystery Guy. I used “Mike” as my name in our company fantasy football bracket and everyone likes to joke with me that I’m hiding my real identity.
What’s your signature personality trait?
I wear my heart on my sleeve. I always have.
What are you passionate about?
Professionally, I’m passionate about having a positive impact on people’s lives. Personally, I want to be half the man my father was and be the best dad and husband I can be. I’m passionate about family and my wife in particular. I adore her.

If you could choose any other job besides recruiting, what might it be?
I think I’ve found my thing, but if I’m choosing something crazy it would be something like a traveling food critic, where I’m constantly traveling and eating.

Better Call Saul or Stranger Things.
What’s your favorite place to be?
Wherever my wife and son are.

I think friendly, passionate, competitive, a goofball, and determined.
Where do you think TGRP will be 5-10 years from now?
I believe we will be a common name in accounting and finance recruiting and consulting. I hope we have the opportunity to impact more people’s lives in the Denver metro area and elsewhere.
